Who is Gareth Hill?
I am a former newspaper editor and current Methodist minister in the UK.
After 19 years as a reporter, sports writer, designer, sub-editor and group editor, I set up the UK’s first fast-track qualification for post-grad students. Between 1992 and 2001 I took around 300 students through the basics of reporting.
At the same time I was a preacher in Methodist churches in South Wales and Cornwall before becoming an ordained minister. I then served in Cornwall for 12 years, as a member of the church’s Senior Leadership Group in London for four years and now am a minister based in Romsey, Hampshire, with responsibility for three church congregations.
I was the founder of the Tubestation surf church in Polzeath, Cornwall, and the event journalist for Spring Harvest for 35 years. I am due to retire in July 2023 and move to Cwmbran, South Wales.
My hymns have been published in Methodist hymn collections in Britain and the USA and sung around the world.

Intelligent and timeless
‘Your words, your hymns, are beautiful, intelligent and timeless. And I see them as a powerful challenge to many writers who seem too easily satisfied with the simplistic, superficial and cliche’d… So, thankyou Gareth for making, and continuing to make, such a meaningful contribution to all those who long to worship God with words and music that go very, very deep.’
