I stand before the cross of Christ
and see my life laid bare.
Yet, in his gaze, I know my hope
is held in Heaven’s care.
The wounds, the crown of thorns, the pain
the weight of this world’s sin.
The paradox of love come down
to raise us up to Him.
All thoughtless acts and chosen wrong
hang with him on the tree.
I hear him call out: ‘It is done’
- the cry that sets me free.
His broken body heals my soul,
my sins are washed away.
The Son of God has breathed his last
and death has lost its sway.
The fight is fought, the battle won.
The captive brings release.
Now nothing can destroy my hope
or steal away my peace.
From cross to tomb the word is heard:
that death itself has died.
The Son strides out from Joseph’s tomb
and calls us to his side.
I stand to praise the name of Christ,
who died and lives for me.
I lay my hope, my life, my all
in worship at his feet.
Stand with me sisters, brothers, friends:
a resurrection choir.
Become a louder chorus yet
and set the world on fire!
This Easter hymn begins with a personal focus but ends with a definite corporate call to all believers.
