As I approach the last month as an active minister in the British Methodist Church, I have been wondering what I want to say in preparation for leaving the three churches I pastor.
A Sabbatical has given me the space to reflect in the best way I know: writing lyrics.
I know that the theme for my final services will be built on Jesus’ preaching in the Sermon on the Mount – ‘seek first the Kingdom of God’.
This is a hymn that reflects where my thoughts are:. It fits really well to the Iona tune Jesus calls us (Singing the Faith 28).
God of wonders, earth's creator, shaper of all things that live. Hear the praise your people offer, joyful thanks for all you give. We are here to seek your Kingdom. We have come to honour you. Set our hearts to thirst for justice. Tune our lives to work for truth. Jesus: risen and ascended. You destroy the power of sin. Join us into heaven's family: freed, forgiven, welcomed in. We are here to seek your Kingdom… Spirit, move us into action. Give us vision for your cause. Breathe on all our grace encounters until every heart is yours. We are here to seek your Kingdom…
